About Us

Our Story

5 Hills Ranch was started by our founders, Wade and Shannon Hill, as a first-generation farm. Both Wade and Shannon envisioned a home that reflected the natural beauty they came to love about our small corner of Northwest Arkansas. Wade, having moved from central Arkansas, wanted to preserve the natural beauty around their humble farmhouse. To do so, he and Shannon began buying the land near them as it became available. The land in Cisco, Arkansas, had been stewarded by the salt of the earth people for generations, and both Wade and Shannon felt it was important to continue to steward the God-given creation around them.

Since Wade also worked as a full-time physical therapist in Berryville, the start of the farm was gradual. Over the years, he and his wife and children fell in love with owning and operating a farm. What started with 50 acres and 15 heifers has turned into a full-scale beef production operation. Through the hard work of Wade and Shannon and the hard work they have instilled in their children, the blessings on humble beginnings have been given back to us tenfold by our Lord.

The origin of our name - 5 Hills Ranch.

5 Hills Ranch can cite two sources for its namesake. First, there are 5 original members of the Hill Family: Wade, Shannon, Emma, Jake, and LoraGrace. Secondly, as you stand on Momma’s (Shannon’s) back porch, you can look out across the farm and count 5 hilltops that surround our beautiful valley.

How we got into raising beef

Growing up and baling hay all summer just to turn around and feed all of it in the winter, Wade’s son Jake was not the biggest fan of the cattle operation. After moving away for college and experiencing a different way of life, Jake soon began to miss the quiet beauty of farm life. As Jake was moving away for college, Emma was moving home to begin teaching. After moving home, she married her husband, Walter, who has become a vital farmhand for the operation. The youngest, Lora Grace, was able to spend the most time working on the farm growing up. As her siblings moved away for college, LoraGrace found herself feeding after school and working on the farm with her dad, Wade. For the majority of the 5 Hills Ranch's history, we have been solely a cow-calf operation. Originally, we would feed out a couple of our calves to the butcher for the family. Nothing compares to eating beef that you raised from birth. Once we realized how delicious and rewarding this process was, we began to research ways to make our beef even better. Wade and Jake slowly began learning about the intricacies of beef genetics. Eventually, we were able to produce beef of increasing quality.
As the farm grew, so did our interest in providing high-quality beef. Call it good or bad luck, but when COVID hit in 2020, suddenly the entire family was back together as Emma and Jake moved back home from college. With the kids home, we found ourselves stuck feeding out 80 steers as the cattle market crashed and our beef was losing value. As we tried to find a solution to this sticky situation, we decided to compete with the soaring beef prices we saw in the stores, and thus our custom butcher beef program began. We had amazing feedback from our first customers and quickly became a front-runner supplier for locally raised, delicious, high-quality beef. We plan to continue expanding this operation as our family grows and to provide our customers, family, and friends with high-quality, unbeatable beef.
